The logic of the Qur’an: Reforming the Mind on The Path of Truth, Honesty and Justice

The book “Logic of the Quran” aims to elucidate that the Divine Scripture encompasses all the principles and guidelines necessary for rectifying and safeguarding the human intellect from errors and misjudgments in thoughts, wills, and actions. God created humankind, endowed them with reason, and blessed them with the faculties of thought and awareness. However, He did not leave them without guidance but provided them with a lifeline to rescue them from the pitfalls of erroneous thinking, deviant orientations, and false practices. The Quran was granted as “guidance for mankind, clear proofs for guidance and criterion” [Quran 2:185] to lead them to the right path, clarify the ways of guidance and salvation, and distinguish between truth and falsehood in thoughts and actions.

The book delves into both the “history” and “theory” of the topic and is divided into two sections:

The first section provides an essential historical background for understanding the subject. It includes an introduction defining the science of logic and its adoption by Muslim philosophers and theologians, along with a discussion of relevant issues. This part also demonstrates how the Quran targets what logicians claim to achieve through the study of logic. It comprises chapters under the title “On the Way to the Quranic Logic: From Al-Shafi’i to Sayyid Qutb,” offering a study of the efforts of fourteen scholars and thinkers representing historical milestones in rejecting Aristotelian logic and its derived theological science, and directing towards Quranic logic, its methods, and techniques.

The second section is theoretical and consists of three chapters: “Characteristics and Means of Quranic Logic,” which distinguish it from Aristotelian and general mental logic, representing general rules that guide human thought towards a correct, productive path aligned with the purpose of existence in this life. “Principles of Quranic Logic,” which are the foundational concepts around which this logic revolves and originates. And “Objectives of Quranic Logic,” which targets what this logic aims to achieve in an individual who follows the Quran’s guidance, applying it to heal their intellect and heart, thereby achieving rational thinking.
